Atlas Real Estate Named A Fast 50 Honoree By Denver Business Journal

DENVER, Oct. 13, 2020 – Atlas Real Estate, a full-service real estate company specializing in investment brokerage, property management and institutional acquisition, has been named a Fast 50 honoree by Denver Business Journal.

The Fast 50 Awards is an annual ranking by Denver Business Journal, recognizing privately held companies based on their percentage of growth in annual revenue for the past three fiscal years and celebrating the region’s innovators and entrepreneurs.

“We have seen remarkable growth at Atlas over the past several years and intend to sustain that growth trajectory in the future despite being in the midst of a global pandemic,” said Tony Julianelle, CEO of Atlas Real Estate. “I’m grateful to work with such an amazing team of people who have risen to the challenge and continually push the envelope on our business.”

Atlas Real Estate has grown tremendously since the company was founded in 2013. Starting with locations in Denver, Colorado Springs and Fort Collins, Colorado, Atlas later expanded its presence to Phoenix, Arizona. In 2019, Atlas outgrew its landmark office, the Zang Mansion, moving to more spacious headquarters at 970 Yuma, Denver, CO.

“It’s deeply rewarding to see how far Atlas has come since our inception,” said Ryan Boykin, co-founder and partner. “Atlas being named to the Fast 50 List is a testament to the hard work, creativity and can-do spirit of the team. While we’ve come so far, the possibilities are endless so I’m certain this is only the beginning for Atlas.”

In order to be considered in the Fast 50 List, companies must have a gross annual revenue of $1 million or more. Companies interested in making the Fast 50 List were asked to complete an application and questionnaire. Finalists are ranked on revenue growth based on verified information submitted in the questionnaire.

“With this low inventory and buyers having to do everything they can to get these houses and not lose them, we’re essentially raising the value of these homes that organically would’ve taken years to happen,” Carnesi said. “The challenge with that is going to be affordability. At some point, when do homes start becoming unaffordable because of acceleration of appreciation and pricing?”

But buyers who are waiting for prices to drop could also risk seeing those savings erased if interest rates rise in the same period, said Mike Hills, vice president of investment brokerage for Atlas Real Estate Group.

“If prices drop 10%, but interest rates rise a point, your mortgage payment is roughly the same,” Hills said. “If inventory remains so freakin’ low, how is [the average price] going to drop 10%?”

The Coronavirus pandemic has created a situation that no one could have predicted. As we approach the first of the month when rents come due, unemployment applications are skyrocketing as many businesses have been forced to close their doors and entire industries to grind to a near halt. Meanwhile, landlords must manage the concerns of their tenants while simultaneously ensuring they can cover their own mortgages.

Nick Mertens, vice president of property management for Atlas Real Estate, which manages roughly 3,200 units across Colorado and Arizona, said the company hasn’t had many people call in yet saying they won’t be able to pay rent. For the ones that do, the company is sending links to resources and trying to deal with each resident on a case-by-case basis.

“We’ve been impressed with organizations such as FirstBank who have already said they will look at deferring a month’s payment for multiple types of loans,” Atlas CEO Tony Julianelle said. “It’s also important to remember that it’s never to a lender’s advantage to take back a property or end up in foreclosure. It’s an expensive process.”

In his first piece as a part of the Denver Business Journal Leadership Trust, Atlas CEO Tony Julianelle discusses the importance of a values-driven culture. 

Many companies are struggling to create cultures that satisfy younger generations’ unique desire to do work that aligns with their values — work that has meaning and purpose beyond making a living. They want to work in a culture that supports their desire to make a positive social impact in their communities and the world.

Creating a company culture can take years, even decades, to establish. It evolves from a set of clear and unassailable core values developed by the leadership team, often with input from others, and subsequently adopted by everyone in the company.

Strong cultures do not happen without strong values, and neither can happen without authentic leaders rooted in conscious business practices — leaders who are willing to commit time and other valuable resources toward implementation. Such cultures are bound by rock-solid values, those inviolable core beliefs that the company holds dear.

Atlas co-founder and partner, Ryan Boykin, was interviewed by the Denver Business Journal about life balance. Where most people would say you can’t have it all, Ryan disagrees, stating you can totally have it all!

One of Ryan Boykin’s mentors advised him early in life that time is limited for work, family and friends.

“He told me, ‘Pick two, because there’s no time for all three,’” said Atlas Real Estate Group co-founder Boykin, who methodically works to prove his mentor wrong.

“When we divide work and life, there’s a friction point there. It’s not a black-and-white situation,” Boykin said. “I’m for a more-wholesome symbiosis. My work and family life are integrated well into my social life. I work with some of my best friends from college.”

How do you prioritize all the demands of your life? At the fore of my prioritizing is what maintains the sanctity of our homelife and my relationship with my wife and child — because I get exponential returns on that. I can be Superman in the world because I come home to harmony and joy and peace and home life hitting on all cylinders.

Atlas Best Places to Work Victory

Atlas Top Places to Work Victory Featured in Denver Business Journal

Atlas Real Estate Group is proud to have been named #1 on the Denver Business Journal (DBJ) Best Places to Work list for medium sized companies. In their June publication, the DBJ featured the Atlas victory plus featured why Atlas is a great place to be.

Boasting a company culture focused on empowering employees, the company has ranked in Denver Business Journal’s Best Places to Work competition three years in a row, and Boykin was a 2017 DBJ 40 Under 40 winner.

While Atlas offers unique perks like in-house yoga, meetings catered by local chefs, a family- and dog-friendly office and planned electric-vehicle charging stations, Boykin told DBJ that it’s likely a different perk that’s having the biggest impact.

“Atlas encourages employees to own investment real estate for long-term savings, supporting their efforts in making the financial leap,” Boykin said. “By way of example, the average property manager owns six doors of investment real estate.”
